I have a friend that wanted me to look up some info on his Colt rifle. The rifle is a bit of an Odd one! Lower is marked SP2329**, AR-15 A2, HBAR Sporter. Now when I looked up the serial number here: It does not match the given serial numbers as those are 5 digit, his is a 6 digit.
If you exlude the last number, to make it a 5 digit, his falls in 1973. I did not think there were A2 marked rifles around in 1973! They used up the parts they had. There are many, many variations. They probably used an SP1 lower (hence the slab side and SP prefix), but put an A2 upper on it and called it an AR-15 A2. Your friend's rifle probably has the less rounded, more square A1 radius.
